Class time will be divided somewhat equally with didactic teaching, experiential exercises, and discussion.
With ongoing practice, and as we deepen our concentration, we will live more fully in our present moments. In this way, we will cultivate our ability to let go of both past and future scenarios with their worries, regrets, anxieties, and fears. Benefits of a beginners path may include: opening to mental, emotional, and physical well being, as well as shifts in perception and awareness of time….and of course the brilliance of our simplest present moments!
What is MBSR?
From the internationally acclaimed program at the University of Massachusetts Medical Schools’ Center for Mindfulness, HOME Yoga presents: Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR). MBSR originally developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn in 1979 is a highly strctured, comprehensive and highly engaging program that takes the form of eight weekly two and one half hour classes, and one all day retreat.
The programs’ primary focus is the practice of mindfulness. Mindfulness involves cultivating the art of paying attention in a particular way to one’s experience from moment to moment with both curiosity and wonder, and in the process, letting go of attachment to unhealthy mind, body and emotional states. This learning lends one to deep self understanding, and the learning of powerful methods for actively participating in one’s personal well being.
Why practice mindfulness?
Emerging studies validate that MBSR participants may experience:
- Enhanced immune function
- Increased perception of time
- The ability to relax
- Enhanced management of chronic illnesses
- Balance in mind body states
- Enhanced self awareness and self management skills
- Greater ability to respond to both long and short term stressors, and more.
